Welcome to WIN

Our Herstory

Originally Women's Information Network, WIN started around Karen Mulhauser’s dining room table in fall 1989. This group of young women were surprised that older women in their workplaces – either on Capitol Hill or in nonprofits – were not helping them by offering guidance about advancement or careers, yet on the other hand there were more experienced women who were eager to help with mentoring and career guidance. Their passionate, honest discussion sparked the creation of WIN to open doors for younger women in professional spaces, and they succeeded in these efforts until the group disbanded due to the pandemic.

WIN was Washington, DC's premier professional, political, and social network dedicated to empowering young, Democratic, pro-choice women. It provided networking, mentoring, guidance, major events and more for over 22 years. It was a 501 c-4 organization with over 1,000 DC area members, it had an office, a staff and an Executive Committee and an Advisor Council of over 60 prominent former young women who were dedicated to guiding and helping the next generation of Democratic, pro-choice women succeed and to generating funding and financial support.

Memorable networking programs included:

  • Women Opening Doors for Women which started with a large reception and then WIN members went to career dinners where experts provided guidance on different topics. There were more than 30 different career dinner parties in private homes.

  • Young Women of Achievement Awards reception.

  • Congressional Council of Democratic Congresswomen and an annual reception on Capitol Hill

It was very sad when Women’s Information Network closed but many are thrilled that Women’s Intergenerational Network has emerged. Women’s Intergenerational Network aims to revitalize the organization with a focus on creating a supportive community where members can engage in mentorship and career development. Through networking events, career-building opportunities, and discussions with influential leaders, members will have the chance to connect, collaborate, and grow. Whether you are a college student, experienced professional, new in your career, or thinking about changing careers there’s a place for you in WIN. If you are passionate about empowering women and fostering meaningful connections both personally and professionally, we invite you to express your interest in joining this exciting effort.
